Black Forest Academy Initiative

Location:

Kandern, Germany (near the French-Swiss border)

Vision:

We dream of interacting with BFA students in such a way that they will leave the school impressed by friendly and caring relationships with TEAMers during their days at BFA. We envision leaving a mark on these students that will result in them becoming missionaries themselves and/or remaining involved in the fulfillment of the Great Commission by praying for and giving financially to missions. Additionally, we would like to relate to our short-term TEAM missionaries in such a way that they choose to serve long-term or become active mission supporters.

Personnel:

Randy & Peggy Stuckey have served for a number of years at Black Forest Academy. Randy has taught mathematics and computer skills; Peggy has taught violin and used her music skills to minister in German churches. She has also taught 2nd grade at the bilingual CSK (see below) for two years. They are currently on home assignment, based in Peoria, Illinois, and anticipate returning to BFA in the summer of 2013.

Dorcas Sommers has been working with the Christian School Kandern / Christliche Schule Kandern (CSK) for a number of years; CSK is a bilingual school reaching German families and children alongside the missionary kids attending the school. CSK was founded in 2009 when Black Forest Academy and the Freie Evangelische Schule of Lörrach partnered to form Germany’s first Christian bilingual school. Grades 1-4 are part of the CSK's new German-English bilingual program; grade 5 is English-only.

Lexi McNair is serving with TEAMServe, teaching high school yearbook and art appreciation at Black Forest Academy. She's in her second of two years of service and enjoys building relationships with and ministering to the girls in the high school.

Anna Key has taught high school French for two years at BFA with TEAMServe; she is currently in the USA, applying to TEAM for long-term service and will be raising financial and prayer support to return to Black Forest Academy in the summer of 2013.

About Black Forest Academy

BFA Opening 2012

Black Forest Academy (BFA) provides a quality, international Christian education that equips its students to influence their world through biblical thought, character, and action.

BFA was founded in 1956 by TeachBeyond, formerly Janz Team Ministries. It is an international Christian school providing an English language education for grades 4 through 12 (grades 1-3 are bilingual—English and German). It serves the children of international Christian workers and international business families who want a North American curriculum that incorporates a Christian worldview.

The school has a high staff turnover—many staff serve on a short-term basis—and is always seeking teachers, dormitory and support staff. In order to be accepted for a staff position at BFA, an applicant must apply to both the school and a missionary sending agency, such as TEAM. For more information about the school, or to inquire about staff openings, see the BFA website at
